Who conducts the KPME inspection?

After the fee is paid, the application moves to inspection. According to the KPME portal user manual, the inspecting officer (for example the Taluk Health Officer) logs in, reviews your application, and schedules a date and time slot, at least two days ahead. Under the 2026 amendment, the district Registration and Grievance Redressal Authority may also constitute an inspection committee.

What the inspection checks

The officer fills an online checklist, accepting or rejecting each item for your category, and uploads a signed manual checklist. Items typically cover:

  • Infrastructure: reception and waiting area, consultation rooms, observation or procedure areas of the required size for your category
  • Environment: rooms well lit and ventilated, with adequate water supply and hygienic surroundings
  • Staff: doctors and paramedical staff present and qualified as declared in the application
  • Equipment and emergency readiness appropriate to the services you offer
  • Biomedical waste: segregation and an agreement with an authorised waste handler
  • Display: registration board, schedule of charges, and patient rights and grievance information
  • Records: patient registers and records required for your category

The result is recorded as qualified or not qualified, and the application moves to the approving authority.

Can I skip the inspection?

Yes, in two cases introduced by Karnataka Act No. 06 of 2026. Registration or renewal is to be granted within 10 days without inspection if the establishment:

  • holds an accreditation certificate from NQAS, NABH, NABL or QAI, or
  • undergoes a third-party inspection by the Quality Council of India and submits that certificate.

If you are planning NABH accreditation anyway, it now also speeds up KPME.

If the inspection finds problems

The Act says the authority cannot reject an application without giving you a hearing and recording reasons. If an establishment is found not following the conditions of registration, the authority directs it to fix the problems within a set time. The authority can also inspect any registered establishment later, on its own or on a written complaint.

    Frequently asked questions

    Who inspects for KPME registration?
The inspecting officer assigned in your taluk or district, such as the Taluk Health Officer, or an inspection committee constituted by the district Registration and Grievance Redressal Authority.
How much notice is given for the KPME inspection?
The portal manual says the inspection date is selected at least two days after the officer schedules it.
Can NABH accredited hospitals skip the KPME inspection?
Yes. Under the 2026 amendment, establishments with NABH, NABL, NQAS or QAI accreditation, or a QCI third-party inspection certificate, are to be registered or renewed within 10 days without inspection.
What happens if my facility fails the KPME inspection?
You must be given a hearing before rejection. In practice you fix the gaps and the officer re-checks. Preparing before the first visit avoids this.
