OHC Design and Layout

OHC design

A good OHC layout lets staff reach an injured worker fast and keeps clean and dirty flows apart.

  • Sized to your workforce, hazards and shifts
  • Built to the rules for your site
  • Full turnkey or equipment supply only

Rooms in a typical OHC

Screening room Vision, audiometry (quiet room), spirometry, ECG
Pharmacy and store Medicines, consumables, cold storage
Dressing and minor procedures Wound care and dressings
Toilets, utility and waste Accessible toilet, dirty utility, biomedical waste holding
Ambulance bay Covered pick-up point close to the emergency bay

Design principles

  • Location: ground floor, near the main work areas, with a covered ambulance bay
  • Patient flow: one-way from triage to treatment to observation
  • Infection control: washable surfaces, hand-wash points, separate dirty utility and waste holding
  • Utilities: oxygen points, power back-up for critical equipment, water and drainage
  • Accessibility: ramps, wide doors and an accessible toilet
  • Screening room: a quiet room if audiometry is part of your programme

Room sizes follow the state rules and your level of care. See OHC rules.
